Many entrepreneurs know of the infamous Henry Ford quote that may have never been spoken according to some experts. The purported quote by Henry is
“If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses”. - Henry Ford
Harvard Business Review conducted research over 10 years ago to validate its authenticity. In their conclusion, he never spoke those words. Regardless of whether he said it or not, their review points out some interesting thoughts about how much innovators should rely on customer research versus their own gut sense of a market. Henry Ford didn’t invent the automobile or the assembly line, but he famously figured out how to leverage both of them together in a way that was ultra-efficient and cost-effective and his legend was built on that.
Along my journey in creating LineHaul Station which we proudly identify as “America’s Freight Relay Network” – we recognize that we also haven’t “invented” anything. More so, we’ve just worked hard to listen to ALL industry stakeholders from executives to the front-line employees, identified the most serious issues and reorganized the pieces to ultimately build a better mouse trap. Yes, I had a “gut sense” of a system that could make more sense, but I’ve always subscribed to two very important maxims – “always be learning” and “it takes a village”. In that spirit, we have embodied those principles as a foundation for reimagining and recreating a more efficient method of moving truckload freight.
I wholeheartedly believe that there is a better path to improving the operating model of truckload transportation to be significantly Faster, Better & Cheaper!
